Well, when the UK house actually is left empty (which is not necessarily so when we're travelling), we have so many alarms and security devices in addition to vigilant neighbours that it's probably more likely to be robbed when we're inside it..
..it's so easy to buy ad-ons to traditional alarms these days such as cameras that send alerts with recorded images of intruders. That said, we have got images of the odd spider that fail to trigger the main alarm.
As an aside, we thoroughly recommend the HIVE internet heating control that means we arrive back to a warm house with hot water without relying on family or neighbours to remember.
